It has been two years since my last update, a period during which I have undergone significant professional and personal evolution. Following my graduation, I returned to my previous employment to ensure financial stability while continuing to dedicate myself to the craft of animation.
Despite the hiatus in my posting, I have reached several notable milestones. My graduation film was officially selected for several international film festivals, where it reached the finalist stage and was honoured with a Royal Television Society Cymru award—an achievement I am incredibly proud of.
I have spent the last two years rigorously refining my skill set. My draftsmanship has evolved from a loose, foundational style—which was essential for mastering volume and proportion—into a polished, vibrant, and professional aesthetic. I have focussed on mastering technical processes such as cleanup, tiedown, and advanced colour and shading for both animation and illustration. I have finally curated a portfolio that I believe truly reflects my current capabilities.
Reflecting on my progress since completing my Master’s degree, I am immensely proud of the level of craft I have achieved. While this period of development took longer than I initially anticipated, I now feel the confidence necessary to present my work to major animation studios.
A significant turning point occurred a few months ago when I was diagnosed with ADHD. This diagnosis has been transformative, providing me with a deeper understanding of my cognitive processes and behavioural patterns. I have since implemented effective strategies to manage this condition, allowing me to turn potential disruptions into professional advantages.
I have also gained a new perspective on the "perfectionist" mindset. I previously believed that my work had to be flawless before I could seek professional opportunities. However, I now recognise that technical proficiency must be balanced with self-assurance and the willingness to take risks. A refined portfolio is a vital tool, but it is the courage to put oneself forward that truly builds a career.
Moving forward, I am eager to begin applying for studio positions and freelance projects. I plan to share weekly updates here to document my ongoing development and current projects.
Thank you for following my journey. Watch this space for more.
