The research I collected was essential to my progression within the production stage. I was able to identify a process that suited me best and was able to apply it to practice. Although I do not claim that I am entirely confident with how I animate, it has given me a sense of direction. As a result, I understand how to animate better and how planning a sequence/shot carefully is essential. The performance is based on observation and the key drawing within a movement. Once I had identified the key moments where the direction of action changes, I could progress in relation to my process and the animation outcome
.
I enjoyed the in-betweening process as I had done all my thinking when drawing the essential poses; therefore, the in-betweening was just about filling in the gaps where appropriate. I was also able to see the characters come to life through the ability to flick each frame back and forth. I could also feel my animation skills improving, considering the twelve principles of animation and how they could be applied within the shot. However, although I was building confidence in animating, there were times I began to question the overall quality of my work. Due to constantly working and investing a significant amount of energy and thought into my work, it became challenging to identify if the quality of work produced was up to standard. However, I believe I will always be in this constant struggle to achieve the best result possible, ultimately dissatisfied with it. Therefore, I depend on the opinions of others to know whether my work is of good quality.
One factor I have learned is that although, as an animator, we work in a visual-based setting, we must consider the importance of sound within our work to make sure that audio plays an equally important part in the process. From a visual perspective, the overall flow and pace of the project work. There needs to be a stronger connection in relation to the audio. This results from focusing too much on the visuals rather than both. However, this audio track is only a rough version, assisting with identifying where sound effects and music should be placed and therefore, I am not too disheartened by the outcome.
Moving forward I intend to focus more on the soundtrack to my project and attempt not to overthink the value of my work as I believe these two factors will help assist with both the production and overall quality of this project.
